WestJet Transborder Flights From the Prairies Take a Hit

Transborder flights between the U.S. and Canada continue to dwindle, with the latest round of cancellations and schedule changes affecting Winnipeg, Edmonton and Calgary — plus B.C. and one in St. John’s, some of which had been previously announced.

Winnipeg is seeing the largest impact with this round of changes, according to CBC News: 

• Winnipeg International (YWG) - Los Angeles International (LAX) suspended from June 1, 2025 until Aug. 28. 2025.  
• YWG to Orlando International (MCO) is suspended for the month of June.
• YWG to Harry Reid International Airport Las Vegas (LAS) is suspended for July and August. 
• YWG to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) will be reduced to two per week from five per week.

In Edmonton:

• YEG to Chicago O’Hare (CHI) will be postponed until late June, according to CTV News. 
• YEG to ATL will be suspended for July and August.
• Flight frequencies from Edmonton to San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Nashville and Minneapolis-St. Paul have also been reduced.

Other routes that are on hiatus for the summer include Calgary-Fort Lauderdale and St. John’s-Orlando for the month of June and Kelowna to Seattle-Tacoma from June until August.
