WestJet Shutters Edmonton-Orlando Route

As demand for travel across the border continues to ebb, another transborder route is being cut from service, this time it’s the flight from Edmonton International Airport (YEG) to Orlando International Airport (MCO) on WestJet. The announcement comes hot on the heels of the news of another transborder cut from Alberta: WestJet Cuts Calgary-New York Flights Amid Transborder Reductions.

The suspension of the route is in response to what the airline calls “ a shift in bookings from the U.S. toward other sun destinations such as Mexico and the Caribbean, and to transatlantic destinations,”  explaining that such adjustments in scheduling according to customer demand are common in the aviation industry.

In a statement, company spokesperson Josh Yeats said “As a proudly Canadian airline, WestJet is committed to ensuring air travel remains accessible, affordable and safe for all Canadians, as we continue to fly where our guests want to go.”
