Air Canada announced its “most significant” cabin overhaul to date, introducing new long-haul interiors that will debut this summer and extend across more of its fleet in the coming years.

The airline revealed the redesigned cabins at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, positioning the investment as a bid to reshape the onboard experience.

“This investment is about fundamentally redefining the experience of flying with Air Canada. From the moment of stepping on board, we’re setting a new standard for how Canadians and the world connect with our brand,” said Mark Nasr, Executive Vice President & Chief Operations Officer at Air Canada.

“Details matter: we listened closely to feedback and challenged ourselves to create an experience defined by a strong Canadian sense of place, alongside a commitment to craftsmanship, functionality, and long-term durability. This investment in the care and comfort of our customers is a key element of our New Frontiers growth strategy to become one of the world's leading airlines.”

Lie-flat seats coming to single-aisle aircraft

The first aircraft to feature the new cabins will be the Airbus A321XLR, entering service this summer. For the first time, Air Canada will offer lie-flat Signature Class seats on a single-aisle aircraft.

The A321XLR will be configured with 14 lie-flat seats and is expected to open new transatlantic routes while also upgrading premium options on select North American flights.

A second phase will follow with the arrival of the Boeing 787-10, which will introduce a new “Signature Plus” suite at the front of the aircraft. These suites will include longer beds, more storage, and sliding privacy panels, with some configurations allowing passengers to sit together during the flight.

Upgrades across all cabins

While premium cabins headline the changes, the airline is also upgrading the experience for economy and premium economy passengers.

Across all cabins, passengers can expect:

* Larger 4K OLED seatback screens
* Bluetooth audio connectivity
* USB-C and AC power at every seat
* Redesigned seats aimed at increasing personal space

Premium economy cabins will also include added privacy features, including extended seat wings.

‘Distinctly Canadian’

The airline says the new interiors draw heavily on Canadian design elements, with subtle touches like red stitching, wood grain finishes and bronze accents.

Boarding areas will also feature visual elements that reflect Canadian landscapes and identity, from maple leaf motifs to design cues inspired by waterways.

Beyond aesthetics, Air Canada says the focus is on durability and long-term usability, suggesting the redesign is as much about operational efficiency as passenger comfort.

Fleet-wide refresh

The new cabin concept won’t be limited to new aircraft. Air Canada says it is also moving to standardize interiors across its fleet.

Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft currently operated by Air Canada Rouge will transition back to the mainline fleet and be retrofitted with the updated design.

At the same time, Boeing 737 MAX aircraft are expected to shift to Rouge in 2026, where they will operate leisure routes with upgraded interiors, including seatback entertainment and Wi-Fi.

Regional aircraft operated by Jazz Aviation are also being refreshed, with new cabins and next-gen connectivity already being introduced.

More than just seats

The airline says the cabin overhaul is part of an initiative to upgrade the full travel experience, including lounges, onboard service, and digital tools. New and renovated lounge spaces are expected to open this year in Canada and Europe.

The investment signals a clear focus on competing more aggressively in the premium long-haul market — while also raising the baseline experience for all passengers.
