Porter Airlines has launched service between Ottawa International Airport (YOW) and St. John’s International Airport (YYT), becoming the only airline to connect the two destinations with non-stop flights.
The new route means St. John’s passengers can now fly Porter non-stop to three Eastern Canada destinations: Ottawa, Halifax, and Toronto. It’s the second new Porter route to take off in Newfoundland over the past week, following the inauguration of Halifax-Deer Lake.

“St. John’s is an underserved market in Eastern Canada,” said Kevin Jackson, president, Porter Airlines. “Our passengers are asking for more new service and it’s exciting that Porter can provide another opportunity to enjoy our elevated economy experience between the nation’s capital and the east coast.”
Ottawa is an expanding Porter hub, offering passengers flights to over a dozen destinations in Canada and the U.S., including regional centres like Fredericton and Thunder Bay, Western Canada cities like Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg, and locations in the United States like Orlando, Boston and New York.
The carrier expects to see more than two million passengers travelling on its planes through the capital this year. By August, it will operate as many as 35 daily flights from YOW. Porter also recently opened a brand new, $110 million dollar aircraft maintenance base, which will help support more than 400 jobs in Canada’s capital city.

“The St. John’s International Airport Authority is delighted to officially welcome Ottawa to our network,” said Lisa Bragg, Director - Business Development and Marketing, St. John’s International Airport Authority.
“This route reconnects our provincial and national capitals after a hiatus and is critical for both business and leisure travellers. We thank Porter for recognizing the potential in this route and their continued investment in YYT.”
