Love it or hate it, Toronto Pearson (YYZ) plays a part in many Canadian travel plans. The country’s largest and busiest airport added eight new carriers in 2024, bringing the total to 54 airlines flying to more than 180 destinations worldwide.
“Continuing to grow the range of destinations available from Toronto with a wide selection of carriers for travellers to choose from, we are making strides in economic generation and increased choice and connectivity of our country,” said Deborah Flint, President and CEO, Toronto Pearson. “2024 has undoubtedly been a record year for Pearson.”
The new airlines gracing the runways at Pearson over the last year are:
Sun Country: The new airline runs twice-weekly flights to Minneapolis.
ITA: The airline makes its Canadian debut with daily flights to Rome during the summer.
Swiss International Air Lines: The five flights per week to Zurich during the summer are the Swiss airlines second Canadian route.
Alaska Airlines: Alaska runs daily flights to its hub in Seattle.
BermudAir: The island nation welcomes three weekly flights.
Hainan Airlines: The Chinese carrier returns to YYZ with weekly flights to Beijing.
Qatar Airways: Three weekly flights to the hub in Doha will open access to destinations in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
Royal Air Maroc: Three weekly flights to Casablanca is good news for the more than 200,000 annual passengers who travel between Canada and Casablanca.
In total, 2024 saw Toronto Pearson add 36 new routes and nine new destinations for the millions of travellers who pass through its gates. A press release from the airport notes that since 2022, it has added over eight million international seats and more international destinations and departures compared to any other airport in North America.
