New Waterpark Hotel Planned for Ottawa’s West End

A new 236-room hotel has passed approval by Ottawa city council and cleared an important hurdle in its planning process. The proposed property will include an indoor water park, a family entertainment centre, a hotel and a restaurant on a site on Palladium Drive near Highway 417 in Kanata.  

“The proposal has been identified as a High Economic Impact Project (HEIP), recognizing it as a major private sector investment that is expected to generate employment, attract visitors and support tourism-related economic activity,” a report prepared for the committee said, reports CTV News. “The proposed development supports the City’s Official Plan by introducing a destination-oriented recreational use within the Mixed Industrial designation, while maintaining the employment function of the area and contributing to the continued development of Kanata West as a destination for employment, recreation, and commercial activity.” 

According to the proposal by Palladium Resort Development, the hotel will be seven-stories tall. The indoor entertainment facility would have a total gross floor area of 13,379 sq. m., which includes the main water park, a family entertainment area and a retail/gift shop.
