No, I hadn't heard of them either, but the airline plans to offer roundtrip flights from Toronto to Europe for less than $500 CA roundtrip.
Primera Air, a Denmark-based low-cost carrier, plans to introduce flights from Toronto to London Stansted (STN), Birmingham (BHX) and Paris (CDG) as early as May 2018. At the same time, the carrier will also launch service from Boston and Newark to the same three European cities.
Primera Air follows the basic low cost carrier model, providing a basic seat on the flight and one carry-on bag. Customers can then pay for other amenities or services including checked bags, in-flight meals, and upgraded seats. Flights start at $448 CA plus tax.
Their website states that fares on Primera Air are for the flight only, including all taxes, and basically all other amenities. For example, seat selection for transatlantic flights is between roughly $52-$77CA) depending on the seat selected. But the airline is offering different fare levels with some amenities included. For example, a basic oneway fare from Toronto to Birmingham is $199CA. But for $299CA, the traveller also receives one piece of checked baggage, priority seating, including exit rows, and a meal.
The airline flies a fleet of 17 aircraft comprised of Boeing 737-700 and -800 aircraft for European flights and Airbus A321neo aircraft for transatlantic flights. Transatlantic flights will operate in a mixed-class cabin configuration including 16 Premium seats.
An agent portal is available, providing agents with discounted fares which it's assumed can be marked up.
Primera is the second transatlantic low cost carrier to serve Canada, with Iceland's WOW Air having launched service from Reykjavik to both Montreal and Toronto in May 2016.
