Porter Airlines has launched new non-stop service between Ottawa and Deer Lake, becoming the only airline offering direct flights between the two cities.
The seasonal route, which begins today, operates four weekly roundtrip flights between Ottawa International Airport (YOW) and Deer Lake Regional Airport (YDF). Service is scheduled to run through early September.
The addition strengthens Porter’s presence in Newfoundland and Labrador and provides travellers in both regions with a direct connection during the busy summer travel season.
Flights are operated using the airline’s 132-seat Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. The jet features a two-by-two seating layout, meaning there are no middle seats, and complimentary Wi-Fi is available for all passengers.
The new route also provides one-stop access through Ottawa to several destinations across Porter’s network, including Toronto City Airport, Toronto Pearson, Hamilton, Calgary and Edmonton.
For travellers heading east, Deer Lake serves as a gateway to western Newfoundland and attractions such as Gros Morne National Park, known for its dramatic landscapes, hiking trails and outdoor recreation opportunities. Ottawa, meanwhile, offers a range of summer festivals, museums, galleries and attractions, including the ByWard Market and Rideau Canal.
The new service complements Porter’s existing Deer Lake flights from Halifax and Toronto.
“Connecting Ottawa and Deer Lake provides travellers with an easy and enjoyable option to explore the beauty and culture of eastern Canada. There’s something for everyone,” said Andrew Pierce, vice president, network planning and reporting at Porter Airlines.
