Halifax passengers eager to get onboard Air Canada’s brand new A321XLR aircraft will have a chance this fall. Aeroroutes reports that from Sept. 30 to Oct. 24, 2026, the Air Canada route from Halifax Stansfield (YHZ) to London Heathrow (LHR) will operate on the new aircraft.
Air Canada is set to take delivery of the new extended range airplanes in early 2026, operating them on some of its transatlantic routes.
The extended range and capacity of the A321LXR aircraft are expected to support the new Montreal to Palma de Mallorca, Spain route Air Canada announced earlier this year, which starts in June, 2026.
When making the original announcement, the aircraft was called a game-changer for Air Canada. “This revolutionary narrow-body aircraft unlocks new, exciting global opportunities with its wide-body range and enhanced onboard product,” said Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer, and President, Cargo at Air Canada
The A321XLR will also support existing routes between Montreal and Dublin, Toulouse, France, and Edinburgh, Scotland, in the summer of 2026, reports aviation website Airline Geeks.
Air Canada has also indicated it will explore new routes to capitalize on the capabilities of the aircraft. ““The A321XLR will be used to replace some older aircraft, but our strategy is to use it for growth, especially international growth,” said said Alexandre Lefevre, Vice President, Network Planning – North America and Scheduling at Air Canada in an October statement. “With the size, range and the capabilities of this aircraft, we're going to be able to, first and foremost, fly new international markets and maintain a presence year-round when demand is not sufficient to operate the route profitably with a larger aircraft.”
