Flair Airlines is collaborating with an Ontario flight school to prepare pilots to become first officers on its Boeing 737 MAX aircraft within 18 months.
The Flair Airlines Cadet Program is the result of a partnership with Genesis Flight College, a private flight training college based in Collingwood, Ontario, and Canada Training Solutions (CTS Aero), a Canadian pilot training innovator.
Flair says similar programs exist in Europe to train pilots for first officer roles on Boeing 737 and Airbus A320- family jets, but this is one of the first programs of its kind in North America to train pilots to join as first officers on large narrowbody aircraft. The first cohort of trainees will be selected this fall and begin training in January, 2024.
"Flair is proud to collaborate with Genesis Flight College and CTS Aero to take this effective training model and adapt it for rigorous Canadian standards," said Stephen Jones, CEO of Flair Airlines.
“The program is a first of its kind in Canada by a national carrier and will allow us to contribute to the growth and sustainability of Canada's aviation workforce, and to continue our mission to deliver the lowest fares on offer in Canada. Training pilots through our innovations will be a key part of our success.”
The Flair Airlines Cadet Program was specifically created to design and implement a curriculum that adheres to the highest industry standards for training and safety. Flair says applicants will undergo a rigorous pre-selection program, and only those deemed with the aptitude to complete the program will be selected.
“Canada has an opportunity to be an aviation industry leader in training innovation,” said Garrett Lawless, President of Canada Training Solutions.
“With mixed reality flight simulation, targeted cognitive training, and evolved curriculums that leverage the strengths of these technologies, we provide support to elite flight training programs as they prepare tomorrow’s air crew. Our programs use proven methodologies to efficiently train more pilots with fewer resources and to higher standards than traditional approaches.”
