Flights across the United States are gradually resuming after a computer outage at the Federal Aviation Administration resulted in a nationwide ground stop for several hours.
The FAA used Twitter to announce an end to the outage. "The ground stop has been lifted. We continue to look into the cause of the initial problem."
Canadian Transport Minister Omar Alghabra also tweeted: "I am in communication with the United States Government. Some flights departing from Canada to the U.S. have been affected, however operations are resuming gradually. Canadian domestic flights are not impacted."
Air Canada, which provides the bulk of the flights between Canada and the U.S., said the outage would impact its "transborder operations" on Wednesday.
Reports say that at least 4,000 flights were delayed across the U.S., which is likely to cause a domino effect of problems for hours to come.
The FAA said the problem was with its Notice to Air Missions System (NOTAMs), which sends out critical alerts about flight restrictions or broken equipment. All aircraft are required to route through the system.
