Two reports published recently for the aviation industry have Canadian airlines listed as top performers.
Air Canada Tops in On-Time Performance
Aviation analytics company, Cirium, released its rankings for best airlines in the world when it comes to getting passengers where they are going in a timely manner. In North America, the top spot went to Air Canada. It’s the second straight month that Canada’s flag carrier has held the position.
Flights are considered “on time” if they arrive withing 15 minutes of their scheduled time. In June, 77.2 percent of Air Canada’s flights met the mark. The weighted average for North American airlines was 73.3 percent, which represents a decline of 3.1 percentage points from May, 2025.
Global top place performer, Saudia (which just signed a partnership agreement with WestJet) had an on-time arrivals score of 91.3 percent.
Air Transat Among Best in Emissions
The Cirium Flight Emissions Review was also released at the start of the month, and of the top twenty airlines, only one Canadian carrier was named: Air Transat.
Cirium analyzed 100 airlines from around the world, ranking them on “emissions intensity,” which is measured in grams of CO2 per available seat kilometre (ASK). Air Transat came in at number 15, with 61.5 grams of CO2 per ASK.
Factors such as aircraft fuel efficiency, seating density and route optimization all play into an airlines overall emissions intensity.
In the top spot was Wizz Air, out of Hungary, with with only 53.9 grams of CO2 per ASK.
