The Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) has opened its call for nominations for two positions on its Board of Directors: one Industry Director and one Public Director.
The new directors will be elected for three-year terms at TICO’s Annual Meeting scheduled for September 25, 2025.
The organization is encouraging applications from both within and outside the travel sector, with an emphasis on equity, diversity, and regional representation.
Women and individuals located outside the Greater Toronto Area are particularly encouraged to apply.
The application window officially opened on June 4, 2025, and will close at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025. Interested candidates must complete an online application form and submit their CV by email to [email protected].
TICO, a not-for-profit organization, administers and enforces the Travel Industry Act, 2002 and Ontario Regulation 26/05. It oversees more than 1,900 travel retailers and wholesalers across Ontario and manages an industry-financed Travel Compensation Fund.
TICO’s nine-member board is made up of three elected industry representatives, three public representatives, and three members appointed by Ontario’s Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement. The board provides oversight, guides strategic planning, and ensures that TICO’s mandate—protecting consumers—is effectively carried out.
Applicants must meet several eligibility criteria, including being a Canadian resident, at least 18 years of age, and legally capable of entering into contracts. Background checks will be conducted, and individuals with certain criminal or regulatory histories may be deemed ineligible.
In addition to general eligibility, Industry Director candidates must be actively involved in the travel industry, while Public Director candidates must have no direct ties to the sector.
TICO is particularly interested in candidates with experience in legal compliance, risk management, technology, or human resources. Board members must be prepared to attend approximately six board meetings and four to five committee meetings annually, with per diem compensation provided.
The Governance and Nominations Committee will review applications and may conduct interviews. A finalized slate of candidates will be shared with Registrant Members by August 26, 2025, ahead of the election.
For more information, potential candidates can contact Tracey McKiernan, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary, at [email protected].
