Europe Too Crowded This Summer? Try A Visit In The Fall

Slovenia is a marvellous country that borders Croatia, Hungary, Austria and Italy. The capital of Ljubljana is a charming city with a pretty river, lovely cafes and great shopping. Lake Bled is maybe an hour away and is one of Europe's prettiest lakes.

The area around Lake Geneva, also known as Lac Leman, is one of the nicest parts of Switzerland. The biking is excellent, and you'll find amazing wineries overlooking the lake. The city of Lausanne is famous for its waterfront and fancy hotels. It's also home to the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Museum, a fine place to spend a few hours.

Burgau is a pretty village in the western end of the Algarve in Portugal. The beach is tremendous, and the seafood is even better. There's great hiking along massive cliffs that bookend the village, and you're only a short drive or bus ride away from bustling Lagos.

Copenhagen is one the most attractive cities in Europe, with a wonderful waterfront and some of the continent's best restaurants. Check out Tivoli Gardens while you're there.

Bratislava is a handsome city in Slovaka, with a beautiful central plaza and prosperous shops. It's popular, but not nearly as crowded as bigger European cities.

Wales doesn't get nearly as much attention as Scotland, England or Northern Ireland. But it's a marvellous part of the UK, with cool cities like Cardiff and amazing golf courses such as Nefyn and District. After your round, repair to the colourful Ty Coch Inn, which sits alongside the sea at the base of a large cliff next to the golf course.

Corsica is a Mediterranean island belonging to France. The food and wine are tremendous, and you'll find stunning seaside scenery all around. Take a boat ride and enjoy the incredible views of the city of Bonifacio from the water.

Rome and Tuscany can get a little crowded, but you won't find nearly as many visitors in Umbria. Pictured here is the hillside town of Assisi. Look for amazing wine, especially the red varieties, and outstanding food all over the Umbria region.

Beaune is a lovely city between Paris and Lyon. It's the heart of Burgundy winemaking area and also has amazing cuisine and beautiful architecture.
