A Comprehensive List of COVID-19 Entry Rules for Canadians

Travel has opened up around the world. But there's a patchwork of rules and regulations that vary from country to country. Some destinations are wide open, but some are still closed to international visitors. Among those that are open, rules vary considerably. Some countries require testing to be done in advance. Some require proof of vaccination. A few still have quarantine rules in effect.

As best we could, TravelPulse Canada reached out to a couple dozen destinations to find out their answers to the following questions

1) Is your destination accepting Canadians? - Y or N

2) If not, anticipated dates when Canadians will be provided access.

3) For countries allowing Canadian access, which vaccines are accepted?

4) What are the testing protocols to gain access to the destination.

5) Is there a quarantine program in effect?

As always, especially in this day and age, please carefully review destination rules and read the fine print for both destinations and airlines. You also need to be familiar with local rules regarding masks and social distancing. Rules can change quickly in this day and age, so be prepared.

Also be aware that some countries require medical insurance, and that most countries will require you to fill out a health form before you go, or a contract tracing form, or both. It's complicated, so hiring a travel advisor who knows the rules of your destination is a great idea.

3. Barbados is accepting two doses of all common Canadian vaccines as 'fully vaccinated." Unvaccinated travellers are also accepted into the destination with restrictions and testing requirements.

4./5. All travellers are required to present proof of a valid negative COVID-1 standard PCR test taken 3 days prior to travel. Persons who are fully vaccinated and come with a valid negative COVID-19 standard PCR test, carried out no more than three days prior to travel, will have a COVID-19 standard PCR test done on arrival at the airport or their approved accommodation. Fully vaccinated travellers are required to use specially designated transportation providers for their transport from the airport to approved accommodation. While awaiting this on-island COIVD-19 standard PCR test result, fully vaccinated travellers will be restricted to their approved accommodation, where they are free to move around in accordance with the guidelines of that property. This use of property includes use of pool facilities, but excludes access to the beach, spas, personal butler services or gym facilities. This restricted use of property is for the period until they receive their negative test result. On receipt of a negative COIVD-19 standard PCR test result and clearance by Ministry of Health officials, travellers are free to enjoy the island. Unvaccinated travellers require a second COVID-19 PCR test 5 days after arrival. Travellers who refuse to have a second test may be denied entry or quarantined for 14 days. Approximately 7-8 days later (5 days quarantine plus the time to return test results), a negative COVID-19 standard PCR test result allows you to enjoy Barbados fully.

3. Vaccination proof required. The following vaccines have been approved by the Chief Medical Officer as of 23 July 2021: Janssen COVID-19 vaccine (Johnson & Johnson) (single dose), Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine (two dose), Moderna COVID-19 vaccine (two dose), Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine (two doses of European Version, SK Bio Version or Serum Institute of India version 'Covishield.' Mixed vaccines (AZ/Pfizer or AZ/Moderna) also accepted.

4. A 72 hour pre-arrival negative PCR test will be required for all travellers aged 10+ in all phases of the Cayman Islands reopening plan.

5. Fully vaccinated travellers who arrive to the Cayman Islands on or after June 23rd 2021 and who are able to produce a securely verifiable vaccine document will be required to undergo a reduced 5-day quarantine period with a negative day 6 exit quarantine PCR test. However, if you are quarantining with another person (or child) who is fully vaccinated but does not have a securely verifiable vaccine document then everyone in the quarantine group will be required to undergo a 10-day quarantine with a negative day 11 exit PCR test. Unvaccinated travellers are required to remain in quarantine for a minimum of 14 days, with a negative day 15 exit PCR test before you are released from quarantine. As of October 14, 2021, auarantine requirements will be removed for all securely verified, fully vaccinated travellers. Unvaccinated visitors will be required to apply for entry via Travel Cayman and quarantine upon arrival for a 14-day period.

3. Proof of vaccination is required. Mixed vaccines are accepted if authorized by a "strict health authority, such as Public Health Canada." Tourists not vaccinated, with incomplete vaccination or vaccinated with a serum other than those admitted by the Costa Rican authorities, must purchase mandatory travel insurance that covers lodging in case of quarantine and medical expenses due to COVID-19 disease, as detailed on the Visit Costa Rica website. https://www.visitcostarica.com/en/costa-rica/planning-your-trip/entry-requirements#Document

4. There are currently no testing protocols prior to, or on arrival to Costa Rica.

5. No mandatory quarantine

The Ministry of Tourism of Cuba announced the opening of all the tourist destinations in Cuba and more relaxed entry protocols as of November 15th, 2021.

The new rules will focus on the surveillance of symptomatic patients, temperature screening and diagnostic test performed at random. This means:

- NO covid test prior entering Cuba

- NO PCR upon arrival at the Cuban airport (which in the past was completed for all passengers).

Under the new rules, Canadian incoming travelers must show that they are fully vaccinated or, if they are not vaccinated, they must submit a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before entering Cuba.

The PCR test Canadians need to re-enter back in Canada is done right at the hotels and it costs $30 USD (payable locally by visa or debit/visa).

4. Each visitor entering Curaçao will need to show a negative result from a certified COVID-19 PCR-test taken at most 72 hours before your flight to Curaçao or a negative result from an antigen test taken at most 24 hours before your flight to Curaçao. You will need to carry a printed document of proof with you. You will be required to upload the negative test results of the COVID-19 PCR-test on dicardcuracao.com before departure. Visitors are required to undergo an Antigen test at a local laboratory on the 3rd day in Curaçao. Please click here for more information.

3. Canadians need a proof of vaccination from an official/accredited lab uploaded as part of their pre-arrival health screening form that must be completed at https://domcovid19.dominica.gov.dm. Pfizer, Moderna and all types of AstraZeneca are acceptable, as are mixed AZ/Pfizer or AZ/Moderna vaccinations.

4. A negative PCR test where swabs were taken within 72 hours of arrival into Dominica. This must be uploaded to the health screening form. A Rapid Antigen Test is conducted at the airport upon arrival. If negative, a traveller is medically cleared.

5. There's no quarantine if someone tests negative and is fully vaccinated. For those with no vaccinations or a single dose only, a quarantine of up to seven days is required, with a PCR test on day five.

3/4/5. Vaccines are not required. Random breath checks and temperature checks are taken at the airport. If you can show proof of a vaccine (any combo) or a negative PCR test you are exempt from rapid testing. While vaccines and PCR tests are not required, all visitors must complete the e-ticket entry form on line prior to arrival.

4. Visitors must present a negative result of a PCR test at the departure airport. This test should have been conducted within 72 hours before travelling to Dubai. You may need to take another COVID-19 PCR test on arrival. If you take a test at the airport, you must remain in your hotel or residence until you receive the test result. If the test result is positive, you will be required to undergo isolation and follow the Dubai Health Authority guidelines.

5. No quarantine.

1. There are no international tourist or business flights into the country. Exceptions to this include the Luxury Vacation in Paradise program for private island buyouts as well as the 'Blue Lane' program for private yachts and superyachts. Fiji says it hopes to open by December of this year.

3. Proof of vaccination is required. Visitors must have had two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca (Europe or Covishield). A mixed vaccine (AZ/Pfizer or AZ/Moderna) also is accepted, as is a Pfizer/Moderna mix.

5. No quarantine.

ADDED INFORMATION: Since August 9th, there is another "Covid Certificate" required to access venues, transportation, etc. when in France. It is a separate process from the border entry. For that new activity health pass, the "Covid certificate", all visitors including foreign nationals are required to download the TousAntiCovid app.

3. Proof of vaccination is required: two doses of Pfizer, two of Moderna or two of Astra Zeneca are accepted. AstraZeneca vaccination followed by Pfizer or Modern also is acceptable.

4. Testing is waived for fully vaccinated or recovered air travellers. These persons no longer have to present a negative test prior to departure. All travellers 12 years and older who are neither fully vaccinated nor fully recovered must continue to present a negative COVID test prior to departure. Both PCR tests and rapid antigen tests are accepted. The PCR test must be taken no more than 72 hours prior to entering Germany; the rapid antigen test no more than 48 hours.

3. Associated Press this week said Greek citizens and tourists arriving in the country via plane, train, boat or long-distance bus must now show proof of vaccination, coronavirus recovery or a negative test taken within 48 hours of arrival. According to Greek tourism officials, allowable vaccines are Pfizer BioNtech, Moderna, Astra Zeneca/Oxford, Novavax, Johnson + Johnson/Janssen, Sinovac Biotech, Gamaleya (Sputnik), Cansino Biologics, Sinopharm and others. Mixed vaccines also are allowed (AZ/Pfizer or AZ/Moderna).

4. Visitors should fill out a passenger locator form prior to arrival at travel.gov.gr. Visitors who have completed their vaccination schedule (usually two doses) do not need to show a test result if the final dose of the vaccine was administered at least 14 days prior to arrival. Visitors without a vaccine certification are required to have either a negative PCR certificate from a testing laboratory completed no more than 72 hours before arrival or a negative antigen (rapid) certificate completed no more than 48 hours before arrival. Every traveller who arrives in Greece, regardless of the certificate in their possession, may undergo a random health screening.

5. As of late this week, there was no quarantine for visitors from Canada unless a test returns a positive. Visitors who test positive while in Greece will be quarantined, even if the positive result is taken immediately prior to departure.

3. Proof of vaccination required or proof of recovery from COVID-19 in the last 180 days. "At present, approved vaccines in Ireland include Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, Oxford/AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson. At this time travellers with a mixed course of vaccinations are not included under the criteria for being fully vaccinated, however we are hoping that this will change very soon. "

4. For those that are fully vaccinated no travel-related testing is needed. If you don't have valid proof of vaccination or recovery, you will need to present a negative result from a RT-PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to arrival into the country and self-quarantine for 14 days. If you receive a negative result from a RT-PCR test taken from day five onwards after arrival into Ireland, you will be able to leave quarantine

5. For those that are fully vaccinated no quarantine is needed. See above answer for non-vaccinated visitors and quarantine.

1. Open only for Canadians who hold an Israeli citizenship or have first family in Israel and who are fully vaccinated.

3/4/5 In order to avoid quarantine, Canadians need to present proof of vaccination, with a vaccine recognized by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), including Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson. Some mixed vaccines also are allowed. Proof of recovery from COVID-19 and the termination of medical isolation also is accepted. Visitors must have a negative result for a rapid molecular or antigenic test performed in the 48 hours prior to entry.

NOTE: Italy has a so-called "Green Pass" that is required for entry to many public places.

3. Proof of vaccination is not required to enter Jamaica as a tourist traveller. Vaccination status is only relevant for returning residents of Jamaica, business travellers, and visitors who are travelling to the island for non-tourism reasons. More information on requirements for specific traveller categories can be found here.

4. Along with an approved Travel Authorization form prior to boarding a flight to Jamaica, ALL travelers ages 12 and up regardless of nationality, are required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 molecular (PCR, NAA, RNA) or Antigen test performed by an accredited lab for which the sample was collected within three (3) days of the travel date.

5. No full quarantine. Visitors staying at Jamaica Tourist Board-licensed accommodations can freely enjoy the many comforts of their stay, and to visit approved COVID-19 protocol compliant attractions within and outside of the so-called Resilient Corridors

4. No testing requirements, but travellers must complete a health declaration form and scan the QR code it generates on arrival.

3. If you are a resident of a country outside the EU/Schengen area to which the EU entry ban applies, you can travel to the Netherlands if you have paper proof of vaccination. If you are travelling from an area that has been designated as very high-risk due to the presence of a variant of concern, proof of vaccination is not enough. In this case, you must also show a negative test result. The vaccine you received must have been approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) or be on the Emergency Use Listing of the World Health Organization (WHO). That includes Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Johnson&Johnson and Moderna.

4. You must show a negative COVID-19 test result if you are travelling from Canada, either a negative NAAT (PCR) test result conducted up to 48 hours before departure in the foreign country, or a negative antigen test result conducted up to 24 hours before departure.

5. No quarantine unless you're travelling from a high risk country. Canada is not on the high risk country list.

!. Canadians are allowed to visit. (Saint Lucia will be resuming service to the destination with the first flight on September 19th with Air Canada following nearly eight months of no service.)

No proof of vaccination is required, however fully vaccinated travellers now have expanded island access (they receive a non-electronic wristband) to roam the island freely by showing proof of vaccine. Two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca are all acceptable, as is a mixed AZ/Pfizer or AZ/Moderna vaccination.

4. All travelers 18 years and older, regardless of their status (resident, non-resident, fully vaccinated or unvaccinated) must submit a travel registration form, and all travelers 5 years and older must take a PCR test 5 days or less before arrival in Saint Lucia.

5. Fully vaccinated travelers and nationals will not be required to quarantine. Unvaccinated nationals must quarantine for 14 days.

3. All visitors arriving from Canada, regardless of vaccination status, must follow the latest Scottish Government guidance which now includes the need to complete a passenger locator form, take a COVID-19 test before travelling, and book and pay for a PCR test.

4. The COVID-19 test should be taken in the three days before travelling, and when boarding the plane, visitors may need to provide proof of a negative result. The PCR test costs £68 and must be taken within two days of arriving in Scotland. 5. Visitors will no longer need to quarantine on arrival into the country unless the result of the COVID-19 test is positive or NHS Scotland Test and Protect inform them of close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

3. There is no vaccination requirement for entry into South Africa.

4. At this time, all travellers landing at South Africa's five international airports must present a negative PCR COVID-19 test which is not older than 72 hours from the time of departure from the country of origin to South Africa. All travellers will be subjected to COVID-19 screening on arrival.

5. Upon arrival in South Africa, if a COVID-19 test comes back positive, the traveller will be subjected to a 10-day quarantine at a designated site. The accommodation at a quarantine site will be at the traveller's cost.

4. No testing rules in place, but travellers must have the QR code which is obtained from filling in the Health Control Form (FCS in Spanish) available in Spain Travel Health (SpTH).

3/4/5. Fully vaccinated Canadians can enter without a test and without quarantine. All common vaccines used in Canada are accepted, as are mixed Astra Zeneca/Pfizer or Astra Zeneca/Moderna vaccines. Non-vaccinated Canadians can enter without quarantine if they have a negative PCR test (not older than 72 hours) or a negative rapid antigen test (not older than 48 hours). Canadians who have recovered from Covid-19 are also allowed to enter Switzerland without test before departure and without quarantine upon arrival. Recovered from Covid-19 = official proof needed; such as positive Covid-19 test result, within the last 6 months

1. Canadians can travel to Phuket as part of the Phuket Sandbox program, whereby travellers stay in Phuket for seven days before having the ability to move on to a selection of additional Thai destinations for another seven days.

3. A certificate of vaccination against COVID-19 with a vaccine approved by Thailand's Ministry of Public Health or the World Health Organisation (WHO) no less than 14 days before their travel date is required.

4. A negative RT-PRC test result is required within 72 hours of travel. More tests may be required after arrival.

5. Effective August 16, the Phuket Sandbox's new '7+7 Extension' programme offers fully vaccinated international travellers the opportunity to reduce the mandatory stay in Phuket from 14 to 7 days, after which another 7 nights can be spent in Krabi (Ko Phi Phi, Ko Ngai, or Railay), Phang-Nga (Khao Lak or Ko Yao), or Surat Thani (Ko Samui, Ko Pha Ngan, or Ko Tao).

3/4/5. Passengers must have a document showing a negative COVID-19 test result to enter Turkey; either a PCR test taken in the last 72 hours or a Rapid Antigen test taken in the last 48 hours. Fully vaccinated and recovered patients are exempt if they can provide either a vaccination certificate showing the last dose was given at least 14 days before arrival, or a medical certificate showing recovery in the last six months

Passengers, excluding nationals from the UK, Egypt, Singapore and Iran, are subject to PCR testing on the basis of sampling at arrival.

4. Travellers from Canada need to take pre-departure and day 2 tests and complete a passenger locator form. Tests must be taken within three days of departure. Examples of allowable tests include a PCR test, a LAMP test or an antigen test, such as an LFD (lateral flow device) test.
