B.C. Transit will be running a new route from downtown Victoria to the airport and Swartz Bay ferry terminal starting Sept. 8, 2026. The added bus service will fill in some of the gaps in the existing transit options during the early morning and at night.

British Columbia’s capital city is a tourism hotspot with visitor numbers reaching 5 million in a year. The city has the 11th busiest airport in Canada, serving nearly 2 million travellers each year. The added service will make off-hours transit more convenient.

According to CTV News, the expansion of transit links between downtown Victoria and the airport remains a priority for the Victoria Regional Transit Commission. “Longer-term improvements are being considered as part of the draft Victoria Regional Transit Plan, although further expansion will depend on funding and approval,” the outlet reports.

The new 72A bus is scheduled to depart from the Inner Harbour at the legislature at 5:14 a.m., with a second early-morning service running on Saturdays at 5:25 a.m. and 6:21 a.m., while Sunday’s first trip will leave at 6:22 a.m.

Late-night trips will run from the Swartz Bay ferry terminal through the airport toward downtown at 10 p.m., 11 p.m. and midnight on weekdays and Saturdays. On Sundays, it will run at 10 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Passengers can bring luggage aboard the bus but are asked to keep it at their feet or on their laps, and to stay on the lower level of double decker buses.

Regular transit rates apply. Travellers can plan their trip at www.bctransit.com/victoria.
