US Virgin Islands Travel Guide

A treasure trove of islands with flawless beaches, rolling hills, natural landscapes, and amazing marine life, the US Virgin Islands are an ideal destination for those seeking relaxation and adventure in one trip.

Located in the Caribbean, you can either hop between the islands or pick one to spend your time in. With every place having something to offer, there is no incorrect option.

How you travel around the US Virgin Islands will depend on what your travel needs are, and which places you are traveling between.

To get between islands, you can either use a ferry or a seaplane. Ferries are quite affordable, and the more commonly used mode of transport to travel from one island to another.

Seaplanes are a slightly more luxurious way to travel, and this will be reflected in the price. However, it will cut down on your travel, which is worth it if you need to get between islands fairly quickly.

To get around on one particular island, you can either rent a car or use taxis. The latter can be quite pricey. But, if you are staying at a resort and do not plan to drive around too much, it is a convenient option.

Buses are the main mode of public transport and can get you around the island at a fraction of the cost of a taxi.

The weather in the US Virgin Islands is fantastic for most of the year, so you can travel during peak periods or certain off-peak periods.

Peak season is between December and March, as the temperatures are comfortable. This is a popular time for tourists.

If you want to save on peak season prices, we recommend traveling between April and June. Temperatures are only slightly higher, but you will avoid the big influx of tourists.

  • St. Croix. With a unique offering of colonial-style buildings, sugar plantations, and pristine beaches, the island of St. Croix is one of our favorite spots in the US Virgin Islands.

There is a wide range of beaches you can choose from, each just as beautiful as the next. If you are a fan of snorkeling or diving, it is home to some of the most extraordinary reef and sea life in the region. Our favorite places to visit include Point Udall, Annaly Bay, and Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge.

  • St. Thomas. One of the larger islands in the US Virgin Islands, St. Thomas is popular among tourists for its rich history, culture, beaches, diving, and nightlife.

We think this is a fantastic spot to visit because it has a lot to offer as a travel destination. You have phenomenal beaches but can also immerse yourself in learning about the history and traditions of the island. You can also escape the resort for a great night out, making it perfect for young travelers and friend groups.

  • St. John. A haven for nature lovers, St. John is a remarkable island with unspoiled beaches, vast sections of greenery, extraordinary wildlife, and sea life.

Over half of the island is the Virgin Islands National Park, which is home to endless wildlife species (some endangered) and a vast array of marine life and coral reefs. Our other must-see sights in St.John include Trunk Bay, Annaberg Sugar Plantation, and Watermelon Cay.
