Sunwing Vacations Group Shutters Cuba Operations

Sunwing Vacations Group has announced it is suspending operations in Cuba indefinitely. In a statement, the vacation company that includes Sunwing Vacations, WestJet Vacations and WestJet Vacations Québec, said that it was a difficult decision.

Sunwing had already ceased Cuban operations through to Oct. 9, 2026, but this announcement extends the pause until further notice. With major hotel and resort brands pulling out of Cuba, the situation seems not to have an optimistic outlook.

“We recognize this news may be disappointing for guests and travel advisors, particularly given the strong connection many Canadians have with Cuba and its people,” stated Sunwing. “Cuba has long been a cherished destination for our guests, and we are mindful of the challenges currently facing local communities, tourism workers, and industry partners who rely on the sector. Our thoughts are with those affected, and we remain hopeful for the destination’s recovery and long-term success.”  

All travellers with existing bookings will be contacted with options to change their destination or receive a full refund. Sunwing states it will continue to monitor developments closely and work with their partners on the ground. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
