Transat Announces Cancellation Of Nearly 30% Of Sun Flights Through Feb. 25

Transat has announced it is cancelling nearly 30 per cent of sun destination flights through February 25, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to dash the hopes of the travel industry and its customers.

The tour operator says the impact of the Omicron variant and the federal government's warning against non-essential travel abroad have caused a wave of cancellations.

The new flight schedule extends through February 25 and Transat says more changes may be necessary in the coming days.

Transat did not specify in its communications which routes are affected, but says travellers will be fully refunded or offered rebooking alternatives.

The move comes a week after WestJet cut 15% of its scheduled flights through to the end of January, citing staff shortages due to Omicron. Air Canada has also cut some sun destination routes, with Air Canada Vacations saying the move affects only 7% of booked passengers to sun destinations.
