Trafalgar is entering the growing small-group travel market with the launch of Trafalgar Small Group Tours, a new collection of 22 itineraries limited to a maximum of 18 guests.
The new offering is designed for travellers seeking more immersive cultural experiences, increased interaction with local communities, and greater access to Travel Directors and local experts, while still benefiting from the structure and support of a guided vacation.
“Small group travel is one of the biggest opportunities we’re seeing in guided touring right now and this collection is our answer to that,” said Melissa DaSilva, Deputy CEO and Chief Sales Officer, TTC Tour Brands.
“These trips are designed for a different type of traveler than a classic tour. Someone who seeks experiences that bring travellers even closer to the people, places and stories that make a destination real. For advisors, that means a new way to serve clients who are looking for something more personal without losing the Trafalgar signature experiences and support they know and trust.”
According to Trafalgar, the collection was developed following customer research and feedback from the travel trade. The company said the smaller group size opens the door to experiences, accommodations and transportation options that may not be practical for larger tours.
The itineraries are aimed at active, culturally curious travellers, typically aged 40 and older, who are interested in deeper local connections and responsible travel experiences.
Among the new offerings is San Sebastian and Beyond, which travels through southwest France and northern Spain. Highlights include a Be My Guest experience at a family-owned grill house in Getaria, where guests can meet local hosts, learn traditional Basque grilling techniques and enjoy a hands-on culinary experience. The itinerary also incorporates rail travel and local transportation, including a ride on the historic La Rhune rack railway and the Petit Train de Biarritz.
The Wild Encounters of Borneo itinerary features a visit with Dr. Wong, founder and CEO of the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. Guests will have the opportunity to learn about the conservation organization's work firsthand while exploring the Kinabatangan wetlands by boat and river cruise.
Meanwhile, Best of South Africa includes a visit to a traditional Swazi Chief’s village in Eswatini, where travellers can meet community members, sample local cuisine and participate in a drumming class. The itinerary also incorporates a variety of transportation modes, including safari vehicles, boat cruises, cable cars and 4x4 vehicles.
Trafalgar said the new collection is intended to complement, rather than replace, its existing touring portfolio. Small Group Tours will continue to feature many of the company's signature elements, including Travel Directors, Be My Guest experiences and MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® experiences, while offering a more intimate travel format.
The company noted that research indicates small-group travellers are often more focused on sustainability, making responsible travel experiences an important component of the new collection.
Travel advisors can learn more about the new tours through Trafalgar's advisor portal.
