Intrepid Travel announced it has certified under B Lab’s new global standards for B Corp Certification, becoming one of the first travel companies to meet the updated social and environmental requirements.
The certification comes just days before the European Union’s Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition (ECGT) Directive takes effect on Sept. 27, 2026. The directive is intended to address misleading or unsubstantiated environmental claims made to consumers.
B Lab’s new standards introduce independent, third-party verification and objective certification procedures and replace the organization’s previous points-based assessment model.
Under the updated framework, companies must meet mandatory performance requirements across seven Impact Topics, which include Climate Action, Human Rights, Fair Work and Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion.
For Intrepid, the assessment covered 93 entities across 94 countries, including its Stay Intrepid portfolio of company-owned accommodations in Australia and Morocco. The properties were included in the company’s B Corp assessment for the first time, requiring Intrepid to demonstrate its environmental practices in areas including water management, waste and circular systems.
“B Corp Certification has never been a badge for Intrepid. It is a framework that helps us keep improving,” said Intrepid CEO, James Thornton.
“The new standards set a higher bar, at the exactly the moment the world needs companies to do more.”
“We haven’t changed to meet these criteria, but we have made improvements, embedded policies deeply and ensured we have systems in place to support these across all parts of our global operations,” he adds.

Intrepid first became B Corp certified in 2018. Since then, the company says it has continued to invest in areas including human rights, worker policies, supplier engagement, climate advocacy and community investment through initiatives including The Intrepid Foundation.
The certification follows Intrepid’s record financial performance in 2025. The company says it has grown by an average of 20% annually since becoming B Corp certified, excluding the pandemic years.
The broader B Corp movement is approaching 10,000 certified companies operating across 100 countries.
