Global Affairs Shares U.S. Security Alert for Philippines

In light of the U.S. Embassy security alert for the Philippines issued last week, Canadian Global Affairs has updated its travel advisory for the nation.

Under Safety and Security, the terrorism advisory has been updated to include information regarding the alert, stating: “While there is no specific, credible threat to U.S. Embassy Manila at this time, the potential for demonstrations, anti-U.S./Israeli sentiment, or opportunistic attacks remains elevated.”

Travellers are advised to:

• Maintain situational awareness. Remain alert to your surroundings at all times, especially in public places frequented by foreigners or Americans.
• Avoid facilities such as the Chabad Jewish Center and The Jewish Association of the Philippines.
• Avoid large gatherings, demonstrations, and areas with heightened security presence.
• The risk level remains at yellow/exercise a high degree of caution, with elevated regional advisories.
