As of January 10, 2024, Brazil will once again require Canadians to obtain a visa ahead of travel.
In 2019, Brazil waived the visa requirement for several countries to boost tourism, while hoping those nations would respond in kind. Some did, including Japan, which waived visa requirements for Brazilian citizens.
But others, including Canada, the U.S. and Australia, did not make it easier for Brazilians to enter, so in a familiar tit-for-tat move, the Brazilian foreign ministry has decided to reintroduce the requirements for those countries.

The cost of the visa is $80.90 USD per person (S110.01 CAD at current exchange rates). It is valid for five years for Canadians and Australians, 10 years for Americans. Brazil has employed VFS Global, a technology company based in Dubai that caters to governments and diplomatic needs, to launch an electronic visa application platform, which is live now.
All travellers from those countries arriving in Brazil from Jan. 10, 2024, onwards will be required to apply for the visas. Along with the fee, the application requires a valid passport, a completed application form, a passport-style photo, flight confirmation, and a printed bank statement showing transactions for the last 30 days and a balance of at least US$2,000 for travel.
Business travellers will have to provide more data in their applications, including job title, job description, and monthly salary, along with the nature of the business and activities they intend to conduct.
