Fans of some of Toronto’s top hotel kitchens will be pleased to know there is a familiar face now running things at the W. Luigi De Guzman has joined the team there as Executive Chef, coming off his latest stint at the St. Regis. Prior to that, Guzman worked at the Four Seasons, Shangri-La, and The Drake.

“What sets chef Luigi apart is his ability to translate ideas into beautifully composed and flavourful dishes,” says Elie Sassine, general manager of W Toronto Hotel. “With his vision, experience and leadership, he’s a perfect match for W’s distinct and original approach to hospitality. We’re excited to welcome him as he helps reintroduce the W brand to Toronto.”

De Guzman’s collaborative leadership as well as his “modern methods, precision-driven technique, and passion” have been credited as a crucial factor in earning the St. Regis Toronto property its Forbes Five-Star distinction.

The W is looking forward to having the new chef shape its culinary identity across all venues, delivering experiences that are “thoughtful, unexpected, and full of character.”  De Guzman is a strong believer in mentorship and creativity, fostering a kitchen culture that values “growth, collaboration, and a shared appreciation for pushing boundaries through food.” He believes that approach will be well received with his new employer.

“What drew me to W is the brand’s openness to new ideas and fresh perspectives,” says De Guzman. “Joining the W team provides the opportunity to be part of something that is constantly evolving. I’m looking forward to working alongside individuals who bring purpose, personality, and expressive points of view to everything we do, true to the spirit of W Toronto.”
