Alot is happening at Sandos Caracol, Eco Resort. TravelPulse Canada visited the property in December 2023, and now renovations are complete and there are lots of things happening that agents should know. We spoke with Ontario / Manitoba BDM Juan Carlos Ruiz for the latest update.
Sandos Caracol Eco Resort is different from many other resorts in Mexico. Can you explain how?

Sandos Caracol Eco Resort brings Eco Activities for the whole family as part of the All Inclusive. At our eco-resort, you can snorkel in the clear waters of a natural cenote, swim through a mangrove forest, and join eco-tours through our most stunning outdoor locations, experience our own Maya ruins inside our eco resort with a guide who speaks your language or take a romantic boat ride through the mandaring river and try to spot our resident Howler Monkeys, Coatis and other varieties of exotic birds and mammals roaming around the Eco Resort.
Learning about our Mayan Culture is one of the biggest values we offer by experiencing the different exciting shows as part of our Teatro del pueblo including the popular “Sacred Fire Ceremony”, among others.
Sandos Caracol Eco Resort is one of the few resorts that uses sustainable energy such as solar power among with sophisticated water treatments to reduce both the carbon footprint and the impact to the surrounding environment. We have also rescued lots of abused and neglected animals. We have sanctuaries where endemic species can thrive and live free from poachers and exploitation. This is paramount for all of us in Sandos Caracol Eco Resort."
Renovated family suite at Sandos Caracol
The property recently completed massive renovations to its suites and added some new. What should agents know about the changes?
"We just finished renovations of 336 of the Eco Family rooms in Dec 2024, which was a USD $20 million phased renovation mainly focused on offering three different family-style suites.
Eco Family Superior rooms offer a king-size bed and lofted twin bunk beds, all in one room.
Eco Family Suites offer a two-bedroom family-style accommodation with more privacy and room. It features an ensuite family space for bunk beds, along with an oversized bathroom with two showers, twin sinks and two toilets. The Family Suites also offer a private outdoor plunge pool.
Lastly, the renovation project added ten new Eco Family Penthouses, offering a master bedroom with a king-size bed, a separate pull-out couch living room with a queen-size bunk bed. The suite also comes with two bathrooms.
We also completed the renovation of our restaurant, Riviera, in a new Bohemian French style. Our taco truck concept, Santo Taco, has also returned."

Caracol is a perfect spot to say “I do” – what does this resort offer that others don’t?
"We can summarize it in two words- Unique Venues!
We have a few locations for weddings: our Cenote is an intimate and most requested setting surrounded by the stunning natural beauty with Crystal-clear waters and lush greenery with the sound of nature added as a backdrop to the ambiance. With a capacity of 80 guests.
Or at our tailored built beach Gazebo, with a Capacity of 70 guests and located in front of the turquoise waters of our Mexican Caribbean; or on our unique and modern Terrace with its own bar and Capacity of up to 100 guests with the turquoise waters as a backdrop. All unique locations and venues to make that special day unforgettable.
And you never know, you may have some of our local residents attending your special day as guests (coatis and monkeys)."
How can agents better learn about all Sandos properties – do you offer webinars, FAMs, trainings?
"Yes, we do. Whether you are in the East of Canada or all the way to the West; my teammates Judy Makara ([email protected]) BDM for Quebec and Eastern Canada, Emily Spadafora ([email protected]) BDM in Western Canada and myself are always available for training.
We offer trainings in person, webinars or 1-on-1. A great advantage for all our travel agents is that we are physically located here in Canada and just a local call away. We could meet for café or brunch and we are always ready to provide support to all our Travel Agents and work side by side to help them grow their business with Sandos Hotels & Resorts by making sure we can offer the best customer support available before, during and after our mutual guest visit.
Additionally, we have 6 FAMs every year from Canada; I strongly believe that attending a Fam is the best practical way to learn about our properties. It is a hand-on experience, and we in Sandos make it both educative and fun."
Your Sandos Tacos series is really growing; where to next and how can agents join in?
"Yes, it is! I have been so thankful of the support we have received from our Travel advisors. I am completely booked until mid-June. I am scheduling now for the summer and fall, so feel free to reach out for Ontario and Manitoba to [email protected].
