New Hotel & Resort Openings, Agent Partnerships and More: Top Hotel & Resort News From January

Happy New Year! As we finish up the first month of the year and look forward to February, Lunar New Year and Valentine’s Day (and hopefully, some warmer weather ahead), let’s take a look at the biggest news from our hotels and resorts category. 

News about hotels and resorts opening were, of course, the biggest news this month, but there was also some exciting news about partnerships with Virtuoso and plenty more to look forward to in the next few years. To read the full stories, simply click the blue words. 

New Hotels & Resorts

There have been quite a few new hotels and resorts that have announced openings in January, far beyond our curated lists of new resorts opening in Mexico and the Caribbean this year! 

• Iberostar announced two new hotels in Miami, the Iberostar Waves Berkeley Shore and the Iberostar Waves Miami Beach. Both opened in December and January.  
• The Ritz-Carlton Bangkok just opened in Thailand. 
• Wyndham celebrated the opening of the Viva Miches Resort in the Dominican Republic in late December. 
• Posadas celebrated its 20th anniversary of Live Aqua with two new openings.
• The Zemi Miches All-Inclusive Resort is now accepting reservations for June 30th and beyond. 
• Live Aqua announced two new hotels opening in Mexico City this year. 
• Hyatt expects to add hotels in 13 new destinations across Europe, Africa and the Middle East and will launch a new flagship resort in the Dominican Republic by the end of this year, the new Hyatt Vivid Resort. 
• Minor Hotels is expected to open almost 300 new hotels through 2027. 
• A new insider peek takes us into three amazing new hotels in Palm Beach. 
• Developers will be spending $2 billion for a new Atlantis Resort in Hawaii. 

Other Big Hotel & Resort News

Travel advisors connected to Virtuoso can celebrate two new partners: Galley Bay Resort & Spa in Antigua and luxury villa rental company, Rental Escapes, which offers a large selection of luxury villa rentals from Costa Rica to Italy. 

In additional news, those who enjoy staying at Las Vegas’s MGM Grand Hotel & Casino will soon enjoy it even more following a $300 million room renovation. The hotel will boast updated rooms, more suites and new dining and entertainment concepts. 

Lastly, Hyatt announced it will be closing the Andaz Riviera Maya Resort this March. The resort will be rebranded into an Alila, which will offer a smaller guest size, more suites and a more sustainable approach.
