Fairmont Winnipeg to Close for Extensive Renos

The Fairmont Winnipeg is closing its doors this summer as it undergoes an overhaul. All 340 rooms will be completely remodeled, as will the Velvet Glove restaurant, lobby bar and event spaces, indoor pool, gym and Fairmont Gold lounge. 

The hotel, built in 1970, has been undergoing upgrades to its plumbing, mechanical and HVAC systems over the last two years. Now the hotel will close to allow the major overhaul to take place. When it reopens in 2027, the Fairmont Winnipeg will be “a hotel that Winnipeggers will be proud of” says Thor Richardson, president of James Richardson & Sons Ltd., which owns the hotel.
