The evolution of the all-inclusive space took a big step today with the announcement that Hyatt Hotels Corporation has completed a $3.35 billion deal to acquire Apple Leisure Group (ALG).
The deal, first announced in 2019, doubles Hyatt's resort footprint, adding 100 hotels and resorts operating in 10 countries, along with a pipeline of 24 executed deals in Europe and the Americas. The hotel giant now offers one of the largest collections of luxury all-inclusive properties in the world.
For Hyatt, ALG's AMResorts subsidiary was a critical element of the acquisition. AMResorts provides sales, marketing, and brand management services to resort and hotel brands under the AMR Collection including 5-star and 4-star brands including Secrets Resorts & Spas, Dreams Resorts & Spas, Breathless Resorts & Spas, Zoëtry Wellness & Spa Resorts, Alua Hotels & Resorts, and Sunscape Resorts & Spas.
The acquisition gives Hyatt entry to 11 new European markets, including Spain, the Canary and Balearic Islands and Greece. It also enters new markets closer to home, including Acapulco, Curacao and St. Martin.
"Today marks the beginning of ALG's next chapter, in which we will continue to build on the strong loyalty and reputation we have established through our luxury travel brands and services, now as part of Hyatt," ALG CEO and president Alejandro Reynal said.
Hyatt says it plans to integrate the AMR Collection into World of Hyatt sometime next year, allowing members to earn and redeem Hyatt points at AMR Collection properties. The company also said it is still determining how to integrate ALG's Unlimited Vacation Club program into World of Hyatt.
Hyatt says Reynal and the current ALG leadership team will remain in place, operating as a distinct business unit within Hyatt, with Reynal joining Hyatt's executive board.
"Hyatt's acquisition of ALG represents a brand-defining moment in our more than 60-year history and builds on our legacy as a hospitality leader," Hyatt CEO Mark Hoplamazian said.
"Hyatt and ALG have highly complementary brand portfolios and share a deep commitment to colleague and guest experiences focused on care."
