The Canada Strong Pass, announced during the recent federal election campaign, is going ahead, with new details from Parks Canada announced today, June 16, 2025.
The pass, designed to encourage and ease domestic travel for Canadians, will feature free and discounted entry at national museums, free children’s travel on VIA Rail, and entry to Parks Canada sites.
“Canada’s natural landscapes are a pillar of our identity and are vital for our well-being. Parks Canada plays a critical role in protecting some of Canada’s most iconic destinations that offer Canadians the opportunity to reconnect with nature,” says The Honourable Nathalie Provost, Secretary of State (Nature). “This summer, I encourage all Canadians to take advantage of free or discounted admission with the Canada Strong Pass, which is making it easier for everyone to access the natural and cultural wealth of the country.”
In an emailed announcement, Parks Canada detailed that from June 20, 2025 until Sept. 2, 2025, there will be free admission to national parks, national historic sites, and national marine conservation areas operated by Parks Canada. This also includes free lockage at the seven canals administered by Parks Canada on historic waterways (mooring fees still apply).
Additionally, camping fees in Parks Canada sites will be discounted 25 percent. Emails will be sent to those who have already paid for camping closer to their reservation date, with information about a prorated refund.
People who have purchased an annual Discovery Pass will be happy to know that passes valid in June, July or August 2025 will be automatically extended for 3 months to compensate for the free admission period. Visitors will be encouraged to enjoy Parks Canada places throughout the validity of their pass. No action is required to extend Discovery Passes.
