TRAVELSAVERS Canada is calling 2026 a successful wave season for its advisors and agencies. With reports of triple-digit growth in some cases, it’s clear that cruising is a top draw for Canadian travellers.
Expedition and river cruising have been particularly popular. The strongest gains during the first two months of the year came from expedition and river cruising, which posted year‐over‐year increases of 40 percent and 15 percent respectively. Not far behind, luxury cruise sales increased 14 percent and ocean cruises grew nine percent.
“Cruise lines have been rolling out new ships in recent years, many with innovative features that are generating strong interest among travellers,” said Monique Lalonde, Senior Director, Strategic Partnerships, TRAVELSAVERS Canada. “They have been expanding their fleets and placing ships in regions that travellers are eager to explore, including Alaska and Europe, especially along the Mediterranean. Canadian travel advisors are seeing that demand translate into strong bookings.”
While Europe remains a favourite (growing by 54 percent over last year) sailings in the Americas are surging, with triple‐digit growth. The most growth is Panama Canal voyages (up 144 percent), Alaska itineraries (up 109 percent), and Canada/New England routes (up 108 percent). World cruises have also gained traction, increasing 69 percent.
The network reports that reservations for next year’s sailings are already up 7.6 percent, with additional increases anticipated as the year progresses.
“Cruising continues to resonate with Canadian travellers, especially as cruise lines introduce new ships, immersive itineraries and enhanced onboard experiences,” says Jane Clementino, Senior Vice President and General Manager, TRAVELSAVERS Canada. “Many travellers are recognizing the value and ease that cruise vacations offer, and wave season provides an ideal opportunity to secure exceptional offers.”
The network also offers a year-round Value Incentive Program (VIP) to affiliated agencies. The program spans more than fifteen preferred cruise lines and over 5,000 sailings, offering exclusive client perks such as complimentary credits or services valued at up to $600 per sailing.
