Southeast Asia luxury river cruise operator Pandaw shut down in October, waving the white flag after being battered by the COVID-19 pandemic. But a new infusion of investment will see the river cruise pioneer resurrected, with plans to start cruising again in fall 2022.
The company shut down on October 26, saying it could not secure the necessary funding to maintain laid-up ships. Pandaw was also badly hurt by the closure of key destinations, including Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and India.
Pandaw says it is reopening its 2022-23 season with Thailand, India and Cambodia as the destinations. Only fully vaccinated travellers will be welcomed aboard.
For new bookings made through March 2022, Pandaw is offering a reduced $100 deposit, designed to mitigate the risk of cancellation due to Covid-19.
Founder Paul Strachan thanked loyal customers who helped attract new investors.
"If it were not for the incredible support from the members of the Pandaw community, with so many kind words evoking memories of incredible experiences with us, I think we would have thrown in the towel. A big thank you to all our supporters for raising morale after nearly two years of hell," said Strachan.
