State officials in Hawaii are investigating reports of cruise ships that sailed too close to Kauaʻi’s north shore.
The investigation is being conducted by authorities with the Department of Land and Natural Resources.
Images of ships possibly getting closer to shore than allowed by state regulations have been circulating on social media, according to the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority. Residents also alerted authorities.
Various posts with images can be seen on Reddit as well as on Cruise Critic.
The tourism authority has also been in contact with cruise lines that visit Hawaiʻi to “underscore the importance of compliance with all state and local regulations in our islands.”
