Canada Claims Three of the World’s Top Six Cruise Ports: Study

Canada has secured its status as a top global cruise destination, with three of its ports landing in the top six worldwide, according to a new study by Compare the Market Australia.

The analysis ranked the world’s most frequented cruise ports based on factors including user reviews, local activities, precipitation, wind speed, visibility, beer cost, and taxi fares.

Among more than 100 ports evaluated, Canada’s Port of Victoria, Port of Quebec, and Port of Vancouver emerged as top-tier destinations for cruisers seeking a balanced mix of comfort, scenery, and value.

Canada's Top Performers:

  • #2 – Port of Victoria, British Columbia
    • Index Score: 6.51 / 10
    • Highlights: High visibility (36 km), relatively low rainfall (687 mm), excellent review score (4.4/5), and affordable beer at $6.55 USD.
    • While Victoria scored low on the number of activities per 100,000 visitors (78), its weather and scenery helped secure its silver medal spot globally.
  • #3 – Port of Quebec, Quebec
    • Index Score: 6.17 / 10
    • Highlights: The highest online review score in the study (4.7/5), solid visibility (28 km), and low beer prices ($6.19 USD).
    • Quebec also matched Victoria in precipitation, with only 687 mm annually—much lower than many European counterparts.
  • #6 – Port of Vancouver, British Columbia
    • Index Score: 5.96 / 10
    • Highlights: Strong ratings across the board, including visibility (30 km), weather conditions, and overall value.
    • Vancouver was especially praised for its consistent cruising infrastructure and passenger satisfaction.

How Canada Compares Globally:

The only port to outrank Canada was Mina Rashid in the UAE, which topped the list with a score of 6.66/10, thanks to its low rainfall, low taxi costs, and high number of activities per visitor.
