During a recent trip to England, TravelPulse Canada tested the peer-to-peer car-sharing platform Turo as an alternative to traditional car rental companies.
Often described as “Airbnb for cars,” the platform allows local hosts to share their vehicles, creating a diverse and readily available fleet.

The car was clean, well-maintained, and ready for immediate use. Turo offers three insurance coverage levels, each with varying degrees of protection and cost, and no security deposit was required. Secondary drivers can be added through the app without additional cost.

At the end of the week, the vehicle was returned to the same location with a simple handoff to the host, who met us before we hopped on the train and our adventure continued.

The company first launched in Toronto in 2016 and later became Toronto Pearson International Airport’s (YYZ) first car-sharing partner, allowing travellers to pick up or drop off vehicles in designated areas at Terminals 1 and 3 or the Value Park Lot, with contactless check-in.

In January 2025, Montreal-based online travel agency FlightHub integrated Turo into its booking system.
“Adding Turo to our diverse network of partners furthers our commitment to offer enhanced travel experiences, allowing our customers to explore the world with greater convenience and choice,” said Christina Allen, FlightHub’s VP of Partnerships.

Turo currently lists tens of thousands of vehicles across eight Canadian provinces, the U.S., France, the UK, and Australia.
The platform recently launched in the Yukon and partnered with the AIR MILES Reward Program, allowing Canadians to earn Miles on every booking.
The company also allows users to book vehicles for a month or more with flexible extensions. According to Turo, trips lasting three or more months are now the company’s fastest-growing segment.

In the end, the rental experience itself was seamless. Pick-up and drop-off times were flexible, and being able to select a specific car that perfectly fit the need made sightseeing across England a breeze — the only hitch was learning to drive on the left side of the road.
Next trip, practicality takes a back seat with some high-end luxury on the Turo wish list!
