WestJet recently made some changes in the areas of change/cancel fee applicability, schedule change notifications, and the travel agent resource site, which should make things easier for travel agents.
Changes to When Change/Cancel Fees Apply: Previously, WestJet would not charge a change or cancellation penalty within 24 hours of making the booking, as long as the travel date was at least seven days away. But thanks to feedback they received from their travel partners, effective October 3, 2017, WestJet no longer charges a fee to change or cancel within 24 hours of booking, for all fares booked at least 24 hours prior to travel. So the seven day restriction is no longer applicable. In other words, if you book a client Monday at 9:00 AM to travel Tuesday at 5:00 PM, there is no change or cancellation penalty should they change or cancel within 24 hours of the original booking time. WestJet believes that this will give your clients even more flexibility when they travel with WestJet.
Client Names on Schedule Change Emails: As of September 27, 2017, emails from WestJet received at your agency regarding schedule changes now include your client's first and last name in the greeting, if the booking is made through WestJet Agent or WestJet Vacations. This makes it easier for you to know which passenger the schedule change is applicable to.
For GDS bookings, WestJet will continue to follow industry standard practice for GDS bookings, and schedule changes are to be managed through your regular GDS schedule change queues.
WestJet's Secure Travel Agent Resource Site: The WestJet Travel Agent resource site now requires a login in order to access WestJet's travel agency resources, including policies, procedures and news. This change, based on input from their partners, who said the site would be even better with added security, will go into effect on December 1, 2017. Agents have until that date to create a login. Until then, agents may skip this step and still access the content.
To create a profile, visit WestJet's Travel Agent Resource site. If you already have a WestJet Agent account, your username will be the same as your WestJet Agent username and your temporary password will be the eight digit IATA number associated with your WestJet Agent account. You can simply create a new profile on the Travel Agent resource site if you don't already have a WestJet Agent account.
