WestJet’s latest link between Canada and Costa Rica has landed on the sunny runway in Liberia, Guanacaste. The flight from Vancouver International (YVR) joins other direct flights from Canada into Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) from Calgary, Toronto, Montreal, and soon, Winnipeg.

Canadians have been a growing tourism market for Costa Rica, and this flight aims to build on that.

"We’re thrilled to celebrate the launch of our new non-stop service between Vancouver and Liberia, Costa Rica, connecting more Canadians to the warmth and adventure of Central America. This new route underscores our commitment to enhancing travel and trade opportunities across our network, while providing guests in British Columbia with greater choice and convenience for their winter getaways," said Jared Mikoch-Gerke, WestJet Director, Alliances and Airport Affairs.

The seasonal flight will operate once a week on Fridays for the remainder of the winter sun season, until April 2026. WestJet will fly a Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 174 seats on this route.

This marks the return of the previously shelved route, and brings the total to 103 non-stop global destinations from YVR for the winter 2025-26 season.

“By connecting Vancouver directly to Central America, we are opening new opportunities for both travel and tourism,” said Russell Atkinson, Director, Air Service Development at Vancouver International Airport. “The strategic addition of this seasonal international flight further strengthens YVR as a diverse global hub, providing an excellent option for travellers from B.C. and Western Canada to Costa Rica and beyond as well as for Latin American visitors to Western Canada.”
