WestJet No Longer Seeking Financial Help From Ottawa

WestJet says it's no longer in with financial assistance talks with the Canadian government. The company put this statement out on Tuesday afternoon.

"The WestJet Group and the Government of Canada have had constructive discussions over the last several months. Given encouraging vaccination rates across the country, both parties have mutually agreed to shift focus from these negotiations, and away from taxpayer-funded support, to leading the safe restart of the travel and tourism sector.

The WestJet Group confirms it is not actively pursuing financial support from the federal government. WestJet and the Government of Canada remain open to resuming financial support discussions in the future."

The Liberal government in Ottawa has given out billions of dollars in loans to other Canadian airlines, who had to promise to provide refunds to passengers whose flights were cancelled due to COVID-19.
