WestJet Scraps YVR - Austin Route

Before they even had a chance to say howdy, WestJet has cancelled its planned route between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Austin-Bergstrom International (AUS). 

The route was set to begin on May 11, 2025 and operate three times a week. According to Austin KXAN News, the airline cited “a downward shift in demand for U.S. travel” as the reason it made the “difficult decision to suspend scheduled direct service between Vancouver, British Columbia, and Austin, Texas.”

As it is, WestJet will continue to operate a non-stop flight between its hub in Calgary and the Texas city renowned for its cool vibe. 

Travellers between Vancouver and Austin will continue to be served by a direct flight on Air Canada.

This is the second transborder flight in as many days to be cancelled before it even began. Yesterday, JetBlue announced they would not be launching a planned route between Halifax and Boston.
