Taiwanese Civil Aviation Administration (CAA) announced that beginning Sept. 1, 2025, security checks for those transiting through Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) from Canada will be waived.

Passengers flying through Taiwan on flights from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and Vancouver International (YVR) will be able to head to their connecting flights without needing to go through security with their carry-on luggage. Presently, only checked luggage is exempted from searches.

The new protocol is part of the Taiwanese One-Stop Security (OSS) program, designed to maximize efficiency at the airport. Taiwanese officials announced the new policy following consultations with Canadian airports regarding security measures. According to Focus Taiwan, One-Stop Security can be implemented “if the security measures of the origin country pass a written review and on-site inspection, and meet or exceed the transit country's standards.”

Currently, passengers from U.S. airports and from Auckland International in New Zealand have the privilege of transiting through the airport without being subject to security checks.

CAA data for 2024 indicates that 220,000 passengers, or 6 percent of transit passengers at Taoyuan International Airport, were from Canada.
