Fashion choices have long been a problem for some air travelers. Now Spirit Airlines passengers might need to check their wardrobe or cover up some tattoos before boarding their next flight according to CNN Travel.

Beginning on January 22, 2025, the airline that touts the "bare fare" has updated its contract of carriage declaring passengers “shall not be permitted to board” or “may be required to leave an aircraft” if they are “barefoot or inadequately clothed, or whose clothing or article, including body art, is lewd, obscene or offensive in nature.”

Additionally, the contract describes “inadequately clothed” as “see-through clothing, not adequately covered, exposed breasts, buttocks or other private parts.”

The airline had previously banned barefoot passengers and clothing it deemed “lewd, obscene or offensive in nature,” but was more specific in its update to the contract.

In the past, air travelers have been singled out and denied boarding, and in some cases went viral about their experiences.

In October 2024, Tara Kehidi said that she and a friend were asked to leave the plane by a Spirit flight attendant because they were wearing crop tops, a situation occurring with other airlines as well.

American Airlines later apologized to passenger Latisha “Tish” Rowe in 2019 after reporting she felt humiliated and told she couldn’t fly unless she covered up her strapless romper.
