Airlines continue to respond to falling demand for transborder travel, cutting flights and reducing service between Canadian and U.S. destinations.

United Airlines announced in January that it would run a Toronto (YYZ) - LAX route beginning just in time for the summer rush, on May 22, 2025. However, United decided to cut the route before it could even begin.

Ishrion Aviation reported the change on X (Twitter) along with service reductions between Washington D.C. (IAD) and Toronto and IAD and Montreal.

The route to California is no longer posted on the United website, although the route is still serviced by partner Air Canada as well as by Porter Airlines.

Air Canada is making cuts of its own, notably out of Vancouver. Over the summer, route frequency will be reduced from daily service to Washington, D.C to five times weekly. On the Houston-Intercontinental route, service will fall from daily to six times weekly, while Vancouver-Miami shifts from four weekly flights to three.
