The Jazz Aviation flight attendant base in Halifax will close as of March 1, 2026. Presently, only one commercial Jazz flight operates out of Halifax Stanfield International (YHZ), flying to Ottawa (YOW). The majority of Air Canada Express flights in Atlantic Canada are presently served by PAL Airlines. PAL will continue to maintain a crew base in Halifax.

The closure will affect just over 50 flight attendants. CBC News reports that 30 of them decided to transfer to another base in Vancouver, Montreal or Toronto, or to stay with Jazz in another capacity, via options provided for within the union’s collective agreement. The remaining 21 flight attendants opted to take severance.

Jazz Aviation’s headquarters, operations centre and heavy maintenance facility in Halifax have not been affected by the base closure, the company told CBC.

Earlier this week, Porter Airlines also announced it will be closing its crew base in Halifax

Representatives from the airport were quick to point out that moving the crew bases does not necessarily mean a reduction in service.

“At this time, we have not been advised by either Porter Airlines or Air Canada that recent crew base changes will result in any reduction in flights or destinations from Halifax,” said  Leah Batstone, Communications Manager, Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA).
