Finnair is bringing Canada back onto its route map, announcing direct flights between Toronto and Helsinki, beginning May 4, 2026.
According to the airline, the seasonal route will become the only non-stop connection between Canada and Finland. Finnair is returning to Canada for the first time in more than a decade. The airline last served Toronto in 2015.
The Finnish flag carrier will operate the flights three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays—using its Airbus A330 aircraft, offering Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy cabins.

Flights will depart Toronto Pearson (YYZ) at 11:40 p.m., arriving in Helsinki (HEL) at 2:45 p.m. the next day. Return flights will leave Helsinki at 4:50 p.m. and land in Toronto at 6:35 p.m. local time.
“As many travelers head off on their summer vacations, here at Finnair, we are already looking towards 2026, and are excited to have announced Canada as our newest destination from May next year,” said Javier Roig Sanchez, Finnair’s General Manager for North America.
“Offering the only direct connection between the two nations, our route from Toronto to Helsinki signals our commitment to the North American market, and the importance this plays in Finnair’s business,” he added.
The route opens up access not only to Finland—recently named the “World’s Happiest Country” for the eighth consecutive year—but also to lesser-served destinations across the Nordics and Baltics, including Tromsø (Norway), Tallinn (Estonia), and Bergen (Norway), as well as major cities like Berlin, Copenhagen, Rome, and Warsaw.
Finnair expects the new route to appeal to both leisure and business travelers, with growing demand on both sides of the Atlantic. The schedule also allows for smooth onward connections to Asia, including daily flights to Delhi, India.
“We also expect to see strong demand for travel between Canada and India, as customers experience the ease and convenience of connecting via Helsinki Airport, when travelling between North America and Asia,” said Roig Sanchez.
The airline’s long-haul aircraft include a multi-million-dollar cabin upgrade, with its signature non-reclining Business Class “AirLounge” seat and a redesigned Premium Economy section.
With the addition of Toronto, Finnair will serve seven North American cities in 2026: Chicago, Dallas–Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Seattle, and Toronto. All routes are timed for quick connections via Helsinki, where transfer times can be as short as 40 minutes.
