An Air Canada pilot has been fired after he posted anti-Israel social media posts, including Instagram photos of himself at a protest in Montreal, wearing his pilot uniform and holding a sign referencing Adolf Hitler.
In a post to X, formerly Twitter, yesterday, Air Canada confirmed the firing of the pilot, identified as Mostafa Ezzo.
"We can confirm the pilot in question no longer works for Air Canada, following the process initiated on Monday," the post stated. The airline had earlier described Ezzo’s posts as “unacceptable.” Air Canada also stated: “We firmly denounce violence in all forms.”
Ezzo’s social media accounts have now been deleted. Among other anti-Israel posts, one Instagram picture showed Ezzo holding a sign depicting an Israeli flag being dumped into a trash can with the messaging: "Keep the world clean."
The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), which represents Air Canada pilots, did not object to the firing.
"It is our firm expectation that all of our members abide by this principle and our professional code of ethics," the union stated.
ALPA added that it was "incredibly saddened by the tragedies in the Middle East. We condemn all violence and hatred, and any promotion thereof."
