Friesen Travel Group is expanding outside Ontario for the first time with the acquisition of two Expedia Cruises locations in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The acquisitions bring the company’s network to 20 storefronts across Ontario and Manitoba operating under the Expedia Cruises banner. Friesen Travel Group, the largest multi-location franchise owner within the Expedia Cruises network, says it plans to open another three Winnipeg locations over the next 36 months.

Winnipeg has a strong, passionate community of travellers, and this is just the beginning. Over the next three years, our planned storefront additions will ensure that expert, face-to-face vacation planning is accessible to even more neighbourhoods across the city.”
The move marks the beginning of a broader Western Canadian expansion strategy for the company, which has built its existing retail network in Ontario.
Friesen Travel Group is maintaining its focus on physical storefronts at a time when travellers have access to an increasing number of online booking and research tools.
“Technology has made it easier to search for travel, but it has not replaced the confidence that comes from working with someone who understands you, can navigate the details and is there when plans change,” Friesen said.
“We believe demand for knowledgeable, dedicated travel professionals will continue to grow.”
The expansion is also expected to create opportunities for additional travel consultants in Manitoba. Friesen Travel Group currently has more than 650 consultants across its network.

The two acquired Winnipeg locations will remain open during the transition, with existing consultants gaining access to Friesen Travel Group’s wider operational, technology, marketing and supplier resources.
The company has not yet announced where its three additional Winnipeg storefronts will be located or when each is expected to open.
