The Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) has announced that 2867668 Ontario Inc., operating as Araka Management, and its director, Priyanthan Gopalapillai, have been convicted of operating as a travel agent without proper registration.
Araka Management pleaded guilty to one count of operating as a travel agent without being registered and was fined $6,250, inclusive of a victim surcharge.
The company was also placed on a two-year probation.

Gopalapillai pleaded guilty to one count of operating as a travel agent without being registered, as well as one count of failing in his duties as an officer and director to prevent the corporation from committing an offence.
He received a suspended sentence and was also placed on a two-year probation.

According to TICO, the company and Gopalapillai were found to have sold travel without registration, specializing in short-term accommodation and cottage rentals in Ontario.
TICO said it prosecutes unregistered companies and individuals in order to uphold consumer protection and maintain confidence in Ontario’s travel marketplace.
