The Association of Canadian Travel Agencies and Travel Advisors (ACTA) has announced the launch of its Accessible Travel Advisor Directory to connect Canadians with travel advisors who specialize in accessible travel for both visible and non-visible disabilities.
The directory — the first of its kind in Canada — aims to fill a significant gap in the travel industry by offering a vetted, trustworthy source for travellers seeking advisors with proven expertise in accessibility. It will also serve as a referral tool for advisors who need to connect clients with specialists beyond their own area of experience.
“Creating an inclusive travel industry means ensuring every Canadian can confidently plan and enjoy travel experiences,” said Suzanne Acton-Gervais, president of ACTA.
“The Accessible Travel Advisor Directory is not only a resource for persons with disabilities seeking to travel—it’s a direct reflection of ACTA’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) priorities. By setting rigorous standards for inclusion and doing our part to build trust and remove barriers, we are advancing our mission to ensure accessibility is a cornerstone of Canada’s travel industry.”
The new directory will feature:
- An easy-to-search database for clients to find advisors based on specific accessibility needs
- Listings for advisors specializing in both visible and non-visible disabilities
- A vetting process to ensure demonstrated expertise in accessible travel
- Free listings for qualified ACTA members
- English and French availability
The directory will open to the public once the initial list of qualified advisors is compiled, following a one-month application period now underway.
ACTA shared that applications are open to active members through a dedicated portal, and submissions will be accepted after the public launch.
Qualified advisors are invited to apply to be part of the inaugural directory. Those who are not yet members can contact ACTA Membership for information on joining.
