Always one of the top networking events on the travel industry calendar, The Association of Canadian Travel Agencies’ (ACTA’s) annual golf tournament was held yesterday at Royal Ontario Golf Club in Milton, Ontario.

TravelPulse Canada was on hand to document the event, which, as is typical, sold out quickly.

The tournament attracts an eager group of agency owners, suppliers, tourism boards, consortia leaders and tour operators, with many returning each year for a day of fun on the beautiful course, followed by a post-match cocktail reception and dinner.

The event also raises funds for ACTA’s advocacy work on behalf of the industry.

Air Canada was the title sponsor for the tournament once again, while other major sponsors included Manulife and the Globus Family of Brands.

Antigua and Barbuda was the tournament’s destination sponsor, and the tourist board stepped up by giving golfers a taste of the destination. Antiguan entertainer Drastic welcomed guests on arrival, alongside prominent Antiguan DJ Gravity. Toronto-based Antiguan private chef Giovanni Meyer served up authentic Antigua and Barbuda fare for the golfers.

The islands sent another representative in the form of Antiguan-born Canadian professional golfer Amaya Athill. She is one of the few black women to become a PGA professional in Canada. Since moving to Canada a year ago, Athill has worked on a number of initiatives to make golf more inclusive.
