TravelPulse is in sunny La Romana, a less developed and beautifully lush area in the south western are of the Dominican Republic.

It's only been a few hours, but we've already learned about the origins of rum in the country via a delicious tasting, ate like kings at the property and relaxed in our colourful and modern rooms with a design that's unlike most other resorts.

The pools at Hilton La Romana include a private pool and bar open to Premium level guests only and suites with swim-up pools.

Cabanas at the main Infinity Pool can be rented for $50 US / day, which is a steal when compared to the prices at some other resorts.

The main buffet Caoba, is open to all guests for breakfast, lunch and dinner and features an upscale bistro setting. The resort itself has 6 restaurants that include French, Italian cusine and a beachside grill. There's also 24 hour room service that is included for all guests - however those staying in standard suites will have to pay a delivery fee.

The rooms are spacious, colourful and modern. In room amenities include a mini bar, free wifi and a great selection of bathroom items.

Our group was treated to a private rum tasting on the terrace where we learned the history behind rum making in the Dominican, that all stemmed partly from Christopher Columbus when he transplanted sugar cane from the Canaries in the country.
