Tahiti Travel Guide

Fish at your feet, mountains at your back, and unique black-sand beaches. What more could you ask for?

Tahiti takes all the best of island traveling and presents it on a golden platter with a side of French cuisine!

Tahiti can be incredible to explore on a bicycle or foot. You can slow down just enough to take in the unique and spectacular beauty of your surroundings.

In a more practical sense, the best way to physically navigate around Tahiti is by renting a car or making use of their taxi system.

If you are planning on visiting the other islands close by, the best option would be to book a ferry. This way, you can enjoy the beauty of the endless ocean before arriving at your destination.

Tahiti makes use of the CFP Franc.

National Languages

Situated in French Polynesia, Tahiti’s only nationally recognized language is French.

Tahitian is also commonly spoken by islanders and locals.

English is widely understood throughout Tahiti, and you can easily get by at restaurants, hotels, and shops. Although, from our experience, learning a bit of Tahitian goes a long way.

Climate And Weather

Tahiti, like most tropical destinations, doesn’t make use of the traditional four seasons (summer, winter, spring, and autumn). It makes use of what is known as the dry season and the humid season.

You can expect a lot of rainfall in January, February, March, April, November, and December. December is Tahiti’s wettest month with an average of 12.6 inches of rain.

However, you can expect full sun all year round in Tahiti. This country gets about 3000 hours of sunshine per year!
